Evening Rounds

Just back in from doing the end-of-day rounds, on a lovely late-spring evening.

Spring rain

After a week of threatening rain, we finally had a good soak.  Great for the garden, which is now all planted out.

First Markets

First outdoor markets of the season this past weekend.  Great turnout despite the rain in Smithers Saturday, but the sun shone for Hazelton on Sunday.

Helsi

Jersey Red Angus X heifer Helsi born to Hazel this past week, named in honour of grandmother Elsie.   Both are doing fine.

Harriet

Jersey Red Angus X heifer born this morning to Elsie, the proud mum.  She looks very jersey, with an auburn hue.

All is light

The light is particularly striking at this time of year, as the sun spends a lot of time low to the horizon and the world returns to colour.

First Greens

The high tunnel is showing the first swaths of green, as the farmers' market season approaches.

Snowfree

The garden is officially snowfree; what a difference a week makes.  The newly dug garden dyke is holding well (and the hens enjoy their new stream!)

Signs of Spring

An empty hayloft is a sure sign of spring; another good sign is... ... lambs!

New Brood

Twenty-one freshly hatched chicks, looking pretty cute at one day old...
