Frost

While the rest of BC is buried under a foot of snow, we finally have a good heavy frost.   Today feels like one of those first bright, crisp days of autumn; the likes of which we haven’t had this year due to the mild, wet fall.

Wheat

The sun finally shone long enough to ripen the wheat, about 5 acres of heirloom Red Fife.

Perhaps the most pleasant walk from the farm is back along the old forestry road and down to the millennia-old footpath along the Skeena River.

Garden 2011

2011 has been a challenging year in the garden, due to excess moisture and cooler temperatures.   The greens and brassicas did well, but still hoping we may get some beans and corn.

New farm help

Mia is a rescued border collie cross, reckoned with a bit of husky judging by the size of her paws.  Speaking of big paws,  this young fellow has taken up residence in the top corner of the barn pasture, where there’s lots of berries.  I should really be shooing him off more often, but HazelContinue reading “New farm help”
